Spine Treatment

As a treatment center for back, neck and spine problems, Saint Francis offers surgical and non-surgical options to help you find relief from chronic neck and back pain. Whether you simply need physical therapy to strengthen your back or surgery to repair a broken vertebra, our experienced spine doctors are here to help.

Non-Surgical Treatment

Saint Francis Healthcare provides a range of non-surgical treatment options for conditions causing back pain that include:

  • Injections: such as epidural steroid injections, cortisone steroid injections, facet joint injections and injections to the nerve root sacroiliac.
  • Physical Therapy: including both passive and active treatments, stretching, strengthening and low impact aerobic exercise

Surgical Services

While most cases of back pain can be successfully treated with non-surgical options, some conditions may require surgery. Some of the diagnoses that may need surgery include:

  • Herniated Discs
  • Myelopathy and Stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Vertebral Fractures
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spinal Cord Compression
  • Sciatica

Spine surgeons at Saint Francis work with an experienced team of providers to determine surgical treatment options for the patient. Surgical options may include:

  • Laminectomy/Discectomy: a procedure in which part of the lamina is removed as well as a portion of a ligament. The herniated disc is then removed.
  • Microdiscectomy: a procedure similar to a discectomy, but using a smaller injection
  • Lumbar Spinal Fusion: when two or more vertebra are joined together using bone grafts, screws and rods
  • Hardware Revision

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

At Saint Francis Memphis, we offer robotic-assisted surgical options for some spinal procedures. The da Vinci® is one of the technologies we utilize for minimally invasive procedures. Talk with your physician to see if you are a candidate for these options.

Globus ExcelsiusGPS™

Globus Medical’s ExcelsiusGPS™ features a remote-controlled robotic arm and an X-ray navigation platform that functions much like your vehicle’s GPS. Using the robot, our spine care surgeons can perform cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine surgeries with the benefits of robotic surgery over traditional procedures.

Mazor X Stealth™

When nonsurgical treatment options are not enough to treat a spine condition, surgery may be recommended. Our spine doctors at Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis can perform minimally invasive procedures using Mazor X Stealth Edition, an advanced spine robotic surgery system that can help treat a range of spinal conditions, including scoliosis, herniated discs and other spinal deformity cases.
